Injuries in Middlesex County

Founded in the 1630s as an original part of Charlestown, Medford, Massachusetts is today a thriving city of approximately 55,000 people just a few miles north of Boston. Throughout the 20th century, the MBTA’s growth was a boon for Medford, as the Orange Line runs through Wellington Circle, and the Commuter Rail runs through West Medford. It is expected that within the next decade, the Green Line will be extended from East Cambridge, and run into Medford as well.

Given this close proximity to Boston, Medford is consistently recognized as one of the best places in Massachusetts to live, and is a place where young families often buy their first home. Today, Medford is best known as the home of Tufts University, which sits in a West Medford neighborhood, bordering Somerville. Tufts is a world class University, and is consistently ranked near the top of the institutions of higher education in the United States. Tufts additionally features Boston campuses for both its Medical School and Dental School.

Several notable people were either born in Medford or have called the city home, including New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was raised in Medford, Amelia Earhart, who called the city home in the 1920s, and notable Hollywood personalities Jessica Biel (a Tufts alum), and Maria Menounos, a graduate of Medford High School.

Medford is also directly in the path of Route 93 as it heads north from Boston, and features many other “cut throughs,” that are often used by residents north of Boston to get to and from the city. It is because of the city’s high traffic volume that a number of serious motor vehicle collisions occur, frequently resulting in serious injury.
